Starting January 1, 2008, the TSA has new limits on passengers carrying lithium batteries when traveling on commercial airlines. Lithium batteries are used in most laptop, cell phone and video cameras. Basically, you can travel with batteries loaded in your tech device, but spare batteries cannot be transported in checked baggage--they must go through carry-on. Also, there are some limits on the size and quantity of batteries that can be transported too; however, the restriction should only effect those with the largest of laptop and video batteries. The U.S. Department of Transportation recently published tips to help travelers deal with these new restrictions.
